STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you’re having trouble filing your annual tax return, you may be eligible to receive free assistance from certified professionals throughout New York City.
On Friday, Mayor Eric Adams announced that the city will provide free, in-person and virtual tax preparation services to eligible New Yorkers through the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection’s (DCWP) NYC Free Tax Prep initiative.
“Every day, we work to make this city more livable for working-class New Yorkers, and by offering free tax preparation at NYC Health + Hospitals sites, we are again delivering for families across the five boroughs,” said Mayor Adams. “Services are available online, in-person, and in multiple languages, making it easy for families to file their taxes and keep money in their pockets.”
The in-person services will be available at more than 130 sites throughout the New York City, including nine NYC Health + Hospitals and MetroPlus Health sites, with four in Queens, three in Brooklyn, one in Manhattan and one in the Bronx.
The free tax prep services are available to New Yorkers who earn $59,000 or less annually and file as an individual or couple without dependents, and those who earn $85,000 or less annually and file as a family.
To receive in-person assistance, residents must make an appointment in advance and bring proof of income and all other relevant tax documents.
For virtual assistance, residents can upload all relevant tax documents and meet virtually with a tax preparer to review their return before submission.
The in-person, free tax preparation services will be offered at more than 130 sites throughout the five boroughs, including the following five Staten Island locations.
- Port Richmond Help Center – 221 Port Richmond Avenue
- El Centro del Inmigrante – 260 Port Richmond Avenue
