STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City officials broke ground Tuesday on a new $80 million three-story elementary school building that will serve students on Staten Island.
School Construction Authority (SCA) President and CEO Nina Kubota was joined by Staten Island District 31 Superintendent Dr. Marion Wilson, Councilman David Carr (R-Mid-Island), Assemblyman Michael Reilly (R-South Shore) and other community and education leaders to celebrate the construction of a state-of-the-art, 547-seat school in Travis, located at 24 Shelley Ave.

The new school will be at the site of the former St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Churchโs rectory property. The city reached an agreement with the Archdiocese of New York in 2018 to construct the new building with a plan to alleviate overcrowding at PS 26, located 1,000 feet away at 4108 Victory Blvd.
The three-story building will be a fully air-conditioned, accessible facility for pre-k through fifth-grade students. It will also include 96 seats for District 75 special education students. It will contain four pre-K and three kindergarten classrooms, 15 standard classrooms and two special education classrooms.
The new building will also have a reading resource room and speech resource room. Other amenities will include: a project room; music classroom; library; full kitchen complex; student dining area; guidance and medical suites; administrative suite; staff workroom; staff lunch/conference room; parent/community room; bicycle storage; gymatorium; exercise room; outdoor playground.
It is slated to open in September 2025.
