STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Mayor Eric Adams wants to get the word out about the “City of Yes” plan that’s been a cornerstone of his administration, and officials will hold a public information session next week.
The Department of City Planning (DCP) announced Wednesday that it would host the online forum Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. to answer questions that have been raised during the public review of the economic opportunity portion of the proposal.
“City of Yes” encompasses a series of zoning initiatives, and the city stated the economic opportunity portion of the plan would support small businesses and entrepreneurs, revitalize commercial corridors, boost growing industries and bolster the industrial sector in the five boroughs.
DCP held five info sessions before the start of public review, and has made over 100 presentations to community and borough boards since the formal public review process began Oct. 30.
Community Boards and Borough Boards, which include the borough president, local councilmembers and heads of each Community Board, are engaged in the formal review processes of the proposal.
Tuesday’s event aims to provide a convenient online forum for interested New Yorkers, and will require an online RSVP
On Jan. 24, the City Planning Commission (CPC) will hold a public hearing, followed by a vote in the spring. If the CPC votes to approve the initiative, the City Council will hold a hearing and vote to approve, modify, or disapprove the proposal.
The City Council already approved the carbon neutrality portion of the “City of Yes” proposal, which includes a controversial measure that will make it easier to install battery energy storage infrastructure in residential neighborhoods.
A third “City of Yes” proposal focused on building more housing is currently undergoing an environmental review process and will be open for public review in the spring.
