STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island endured a walloping from early April showers last week, but a well-deserved break has arrived just in time for solar eclipse.
AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Matt Benz said that Monday’s eclipse will be punctuated by “very wispy clouds” and sun, but overall, Staten Island will have “fair viewing conditions.” Islanders will venture out into temperatures in the 60-degree range as they catch the phenomenon.
Tuesday, Benz says, will be the pleasantest day this week has to offer as we “make a run at 70 degrees.” Gray skies will be a distant memory as the day is punctuated by sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures.
Alas, the warm spring weather is still just beyond our grasp. Wednesday brings us back to reality with temperatures sinking back down into the upper 50s. According to the AccuWeather website, the clouds move back in — and don’t be surprised if we get some rain moving through the area.
Thursday will inspire flashbacks to last week as a storm rolls up from the southwest, drenching us with rain and thunderstorms.
“We are looking at significant rainfall, possibly Thursday into Thursday night, that could renew the risk for flooding here across the area, so [this is] something that AccuWeather will be following very closely here for this week,” Benz said.
Early estimates put Staten Island at risk of receiving one to two inches of rain, Benz said.
Thankfully, it won’t be nearly as cold as last week with Thursday’s high hitting 60 degrees, according to the AccuWeather website.
The rain will unfortunately carry over into Friday, but the AccuWeather website says that temperatures will reach about 65 degrees.
Luckily, the weekend looks a bit better. For Saturday, Benz says he “can’t rule out a stray shower,” but the temperatures will be in the low 60s. Sunday puts Staten Island in the mid-to-upper 60-degree scope, with the AccuWeather website putting us down for lots of sunshine once again.
