STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Scattered thunderstorms may develop Tuesday afternoon and drop heavy rain and wind, triggering potential isolated flash flooding, the National Weather Service warned.
Nearly all of New York City is considered to be at slight risk for excessive rainfall, according to the agency’s Weather Prediction Center.
“This is where there is the greatest threat for multiple storms with heavy downpours to move over the same area,” the National Weather Service’s New York office wrote on Twitter.
Staten Island is forecasted to have a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3 p.m. The risk for showers and thunderstorms will persist until the early evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will still be warm. A high near 88 degrees is expected, and heat index values could be as high as 96 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
