STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Sunday has brought more rain to New York City, and while the sky may look dismal for the moment, rain shouldnโt impact the Halloween forecast.
The rainy weekend streak lives, and for the eighth in a row, rain haunts the streets of New York City on at least one day of the weekend. Like a masked slasher that wonโt stay down, this pattern of rain seems unyielding, consistently dampening any weekend outings.
Despite another round of precipitation, Saturday saw temperatures hit 84 degrees in the area.
Sunday morning brought about showers and cloudy skies, and while rain is not guaranteed for the remainder of the day, the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts that rain is likely to continue into the afternoon and evening; the nightโs chance of precipitation holding at 70%. The afternoon temperature is expected to hover around 55 before dipping to a low near 52. Patches of fog can be expected after 2 p.m.
Senior Meteorologist with AccuWeather Matt Benzโs forecast reinforces the prediction of continuous precipitation, noting that the city could experience periods of heavy rainfall.
โFor the rest of today, weโll see kind of what weโve been seeing already this morning – more occasional rain and drizzle. You kind of get these embedded showers that bring a little bit heavier rain at times,โ Benz said.
As the rain dies down a bit, the area could see some drizzle and maybe even a couple shower overnight into the morning, according to Benz.
Monday is currently projected to take after Sunday, with rain and fog expected before noon; chance of precipitation at 70%, as noted by the NWS. Temperatures for Monday are slated to hit a high around 63 and a low near 40 in the night. The NWS is predicting a dry Monday night with partly cloudy skies.
As the cold front finally makes its way out of the area, some drier air brings about the promise of a cool, but rainless Halloween.
