NYPD: 2 men arrested with alleged drugs in pre-dawn raid on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities allege that they found drugs during a pre-dawn raid at a home in New Dorp where two men were arrested.

Officers armed with a search warrant swarmed the apartment of Anthony Iovine, 51, and Teakin Johnson, 40, on the 200 block of Mill Road near Ebbitts Street on Oct. 5 at about 6 a.m., according to the criminal complaint and police.

Iovine was inside a bedroom and Johnson was in the living room when cops arrived, authorities say. Officers caught Iovine holding cocaine in his hands during the search, the complaint alleges.

In a bedroom, officers seized cocaine from a table, and sedatives in the form of five pills of alprazolam, three tablets of clonazepam and one pill of diazepam, the complaint alleges. Cocaine residue was detected on a spoon, four glass pipes, one metal pipe and a scale, authorities allege.

In the kitchen, cocaine was confiscated from a counter and residue of that drug tainted a spoon and a scale, according to the complaint.

Iovine and Johnson have been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to all charges and have been released on non-monetary considerations.

Iovine is due back in Criminal Court on Nov. 15 for multiple cases.

He was convicted of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree in June 2022 for an arrest earlier that year, according to the criminal complaint.

An attorney for Iovine did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Johnson pleaded guilty to criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree in Supreme Court in connection with an arrest on Sept. 2, 2021. Johnson’s next court date for both cases is Nov. 2. according to public records.

Attorney Yan Katsnelson, who is representing Johnson, declined to comment at this time.
