STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police arrested and charged a 57-year-old man after a shooting on Staten Island’s South Shore sent a victim to the hospital.
Dominick Giordano, a resident of the 400 block of Pompey Avenue, near where the shooting occurred, faces charges of felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
The shooting occurred early Sunday morning, around 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of Pompey and Rye avenues in Eltingville, when police said a man displayed a firearm before shooting the weapon and striking a 41-year-old male victim in the torso. Giordano was arrested at the scene, police said.
The victim was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze but is considered to be in stable condition, according to the NYPD.
It is not immediately clear what preceded the shooting, said the department spokesman. The NYPD’s investigation is ongoing.
The block where the shooting occurred appeared undisturbed Sunday evening, with residents carrying out their usual activities. Through Sept. 24, only one shooting has occurred in the NYPD’s 123rd Precinct, which covers Staten Island’s South Shore.
