NYPD, FDNY assisting ongoing search for missing kayaker in Raritan Bay

A 74-year-old kayaker went missing in the Raritan Bay off Keyport on Monday evening and a search involving the U.S. Coast Guard remains ongoing Tuesday morning.

Zhenjiang Dingโ€™s kayak and personal belongings were found near Cedar Street Park in Keyport Harbor at about 6:30 p.m., the Coast Guard said in a statement. Keyport police said the discovery was made near Walnut Street and that the kayaker had been fishing.

The search was continuing at 9:15 a.m., the Coast Guard said.

Ding is described as 5-foot-6-inches tall and approximately 140 to 160 pounds. A photo released by the Coast Guard shows he has brown hair and brown eyes.

โ€œWhile the Coast Guard continues the search tonight, our teams will rejoin them tomorrow and remain vigilant,โ€ Keyport police said shortly before 1 a.m. โ€œOur hearts and thoughts are with this family until their beloved member is located.โ€

Keyport police couldnโ€™t be reached for additional information before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

State Police, the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department are also looking for Ding.
