NYPD identifies man, 61, fatally struck by car crossing street on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD identified the 61-year-old man struck and killed by a vehicle in Midland Beach Monday night as William Driscoll.

A resident of Goshen, N.Y., Driscoll was hit by a white 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML 350 while trying to cross Capodanno Boulevard at Lincoln Avenue, according to a spokeswoman with the NYPD.

The crash occurred around 6:10 p.m.

Police responded to the call and found Driscoll with severe trauma to the body and head, police said. EMS arrived on the scene and transported Driscoll to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where he was pronounced deceased, the spokeswoman said.

Investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that Driscoll attempted to cross Capodanno Boulevard from west to east when he was struck by the vehicle, which was operated by a 65-year old male, according to the NYPD.

The operator remained on scene, and there are currently no arrests at this time, the spokeswoman said.

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.
