NYPD identifies man found dead in Staten Island apartment; questions remain about cause

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD identified the man found dead in a Mariners Harbor apartment complex as 63-year-old Anthony Williams.

Police found Williams unconscious and unresponsive at 35 Holland Ave. at 12:40 p.m. on Sunday with bruises and lacerations on his body, the Advance/SILive.com previously reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The NYPD said Williams lived at the apartment building. It is not currently clear how long he was dead before police arrived to the location.

A source with knowledge of the investigation said the body was found by a security guard at the complex. The NYPD initially said the individual discovered at the scene was 53 years old.

The city medical examiner, responsible for determining a cause of death in the case, did not immediately respond for a request for information.
