STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 41-year-old man was shot with his own gun during a botched home-invasion robbery in Stapleton, authorities allege.
The 37-year-old intended target also was arrested after police say they raided his home and found a drug stash.
Tariq Adams of Lexington Avenue in Brooklyn stands accused in the attempted robbery on Saturday at about 10:40 a.m. inside the home of Foad Odeh on the 700 block of Bay Street, police said.
Adams allegedly brandished a black firearm and forced his way into the home, which was occupied by Odeh and a 39-year-old man.
The criminal complaint alleges that Adams pressed the firearm against Odeh’s stomach and said, “Give me your s—. Give me what you f—— got.”
Adams then allegedly attempted to snatch a watch from Odeh’s wrist.
Adams and Odeh struggled over control of the gun and Adams “discharged multiple rounds” of 9 mm bullets, striking his own left knee, according to the complaint.
The firearm was not recovered and Adams was taken in stable condition to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, police said.
Officers armed with a search warrant returned at about 7 p.m. on Saturday and swarmed Odeh’s home while the 37-year-old defendant was present.
Officers seized unlabeled bottles that contained 51 white pills of the anti-anxiety medication alprazolam, 25 orange pills of amphetamine and two loose pills of the anti-anxiety drug diazepam, the complaint alleges.
A plastic-zipper bag contained an unlabelled green bottle that held two partial pills of alprazolam, and a blue tablet of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) was stored in a purple plastic zipper bag, according to the complaint.
Residue of cocaine powder was detected on three scales and a glass pipe and about 100 small, clear plastic zipper bags were recovered, police said.
