NYPD: Staten Island man swung machete at woman, barricaded himself inside Eltingville house

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 33-year-old New Dorp man faces multiple charges following an incident in which he allegedly menaced several people with a machete in Eltingville shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday.

Following an initial police response regarding a woman having had a machete swung at her, Joseph Mason barricaded himself inside a home on Chesebrough Street, located near Richmond Avenue, a spokeswoman for the NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information said.

NYPD emergency service units, along with tactical assistance response units, entered the home and took the man into custody without incident or injury, the spokeswoman said.
