NYPD: Unarmed robbery reported at Staten Island deli

STATATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police are searching for an individual who allegedly committed a robbery at a business in Tompkinsville Tuesday afternoon.

At around 3:45 p.m., a man entered Summer’s Value Deli and Grill at 49 Victory Blvd. and allegedly made a statement insinuating he wanted an employee to hand over money, a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public information said.

The individual was unarmed, but an employee gave him an unknown amount of cash, the spokesman said.

Police said the individual was wearing a black hoodie, white sweatpants and a black ski mask. He fled on foot in the direction of Westervelt Avenue.

NYPD units could be seen parked outside the deli while officers stood inside speaking with employees. Several customers were turned away by an officer standing near the front entrance of the deli.

No arrests have been made and an investigation remains ongoing, the spokesman went on to say.
