STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Migrants were moved into the new emergency shelter at the former St. John Villa Academy despite ongoing outrage from residents and elected officials, as well as a court order to vacate. But city officials say they’ve been left with no other choice.
For the third straight day, protestors have gathered outside the former Arrochar school building demanding the city reconsider its plan to house migrants at the site planned for single women and adult families currently in city care as they seek asylum in the United States.
