Person shot inside Staten Island home on New Year’s Day, NYPD confirms

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — One person was shot inside a home on New Year’s Day, sparking a large police response in Sunnyside.

The shooting happened inside a home on Logan Avenue, a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information confirmed to the Advance/SILive.com. Police officers were seen standing post outside the front entrance of the home, as well as a side door.

A police source told an Advance/SILive.com reporter that detectives were canvassing the neighborhood for homes with outdoor surveillance cameras. Neighbors told the reporter they were unaware of a shooting, and were surprised to see the large police presence shortly before noon on Monday.

According to preliminary information provided by police, the victim — identified by police as an 18-year-old man — was shot once in his left arm. He was brought to Richmond University Medical Center by private means and is in stable condition.

Police initially reported the shooting happened near the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Clove Road shortly after 11:30 a.m. Logan Avenue is a dead-end street that runs perpendicular to Oswego Street; the latter connects to Clove Road.

Around 12:50 p.m., an Advance/SILive.com reporter observed an NYPD officer at the basketball courts within Clove Lakes Park standing behind yellow police tape. The courts were closed to the public for a short time; it’s unclear why police were at the park, or if their presence was connected to the Logan Avenue shooting.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. There is no description of the perpetrator available at this time, according to police.
