STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — There was plenty of pizza, pasta, prosciutto and other fare to be consumed and enjoyed by the hundreds of attendees who showed up to the Italian Festival on the Mount at Mount Loretto on Sunday.

The Pleasant Plains Columbus Day celebration started on Friday and continues through Monday from noon until 10 p.m. Admission is $5 per guest with complimentary entry to children under 12.
Catholic Charities Board head Joe Delaney said proceeds from the weekend-long event go to a myriad of causes in the borough. He said some monies are slated to ease food insecurities on Staten Island, while some will go toward the care of older nuns who previously served as teachers, nurses, doctors and administrators.
“Despite the bad news in the world and times when we can be down, festivals like this are things in which to carve out some joy,” said Catholic Charities CEO Claire Atalla.
