South Shore didn’t just win the Little League District 24 12s All-Star Baseball Tournament that ended with an 8-0 championship game victory over Mid-Island on Monday.
The Tottenville loop dominated the competition, start-to-finish, to the tune of outscoring its opponent 62-5 in four round-robin games, then two playoff contests.
Not too shabby.
South Shore manager Mike Zaccariello described it best when he referred to his squad as possessing ‘power hitting, power pitching,’ after its victory over Mid-Island. And its defense hasn’t been too bad either.
South Shore has a roster of 13 players and, suffice it to say, every one of them has contributed to the sizzling start at one time or another. The District 24 champs are currently preparing for the Section 3 South tourney.
But which player was the Most Valuable Player of the district tourney? Which athlete performed best, start-to-finish, for the newly crowned champs?
The Advance/SILive.com has put together a list of six players who performed best during the District 24 tournament. As we stated previously, there are a number of players who made contributions, but these are the six who appeared to contribute most consistently.
The list is in alphabetical order:
Anthony Conti: South Shore’s leadoff hitter was a catalyst from the first game and he had a 3-for-3 performance with two homers in the semifinal win over Snug Harbor and a 2 for 3 effort in the title game victory over M-I. He also dominated on the mound when called upon.
Robert Esposito: He provided Tottenville loop with some pop as evidenced by his homer in a victory over Great Kills, as well as a huge two-run homer against Mid-Island in the championship game. Esposito also gave SS a consistent arm on the mound.
Christian Falzone: South Shore’s clean-up hitter broke a 1-1 tie with a solo homer in the seventh inning against Snug Harbor in pool play, then went 3 for 3 with a homer in the semifinal victory over the Snugs a week later. When called upon, he…
