Port Richmond HS bowler Madison Gigliello openly admits she was initially on the fence about competing at the collegiate level.
But as fate would have it, the 17-year-old Gigliello was competing in a Saturday morning league with Angelina Lubrano and Kristina Colon โ a pair of Wagner College keglers โ when they convinced their younger friend to contact Seahawksโ coach Anthony Pepe.
Gigliello decided to give it a shot and an email turned into a phone call before she finally got a chance to meet Pepe at Rabโs Country Lanes during the Seahawks Invite in early November.
Then the ball, so to speak, really got rolling toward a career at the next level.
โI eventually went for a visit of the school โ the view was amazing and itโs a big school, but a small school at the same time. I just really felt comfortable there,โ’ Gigliello said matter-of-factly. โI decided I wanted to take a chance.โ’
And in turn, Gigliello recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the Division 1 Grymes Hill school on a partial athletic, partial academic scholarship, the Advance/SILive.com has learned.
โIt feels amazing,โ’ she said about not only competing in college, but at the Division 1 level. โI am very happy with my decision.โ’
Gigliello said when she started bowling seven years ago, it was just for fun. But she began to take the sport more seriously in 8th grade and after missing her freshman year because of the pandemic, sheโs been a mainstay on the Raidersโ roster the last three seasons.
Sheโs been productive as well.
The Mariners Harbor resident qualified for PSAL borough individuals in each of her three years and finished seventh overall during her senior campaign. She also qualified for the PSAL city individuals this year and finished in 15th place overall.
During Giglielloโs senior year, she won the regular-season city triple crown with a high average (182), high game (258) and total pin fall (3,094), in addition to being named Outstanding Girlsโ…
