STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City recently released the results of state reading and math exams from this past spring, with results broken down by schools.
The city Department of Education (DOE) released data on the 2023 New York state test scores last week for English language arts and math. Each spring, students in grades three through eight take part in standardized exams in reading and math — offering an idea of how well students are succeeding in those subjects. State exam scores also determine if a student receives academic intervention services, which are intended to increase achievement for students who struggle to meet the learning standards. Students are graded on a scale of one to four, with three and four determining if a student is proficient in the subject.
