She thought the movie was starting, but got the surprise of her life: An unforgettable Staten Island proposal

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you believe there’s truth to the old adage that destiny is scripted in the stars and fate and true love go hand-in-hand, you’ll want to read Victoria Priola and Sajjid Ahamed’s heartfelt love story that’s sure to warm your heart.

Perhaps it was a chance encounter or even a stroke of good luck, but when the awesome twosome became reacquainted and eventually fell in love — it was sheer magic.

THE COUPLE’S LOVE STORY

Priola, 28, initially met Ahamed, 29, at a birthday party when they were just 16.

Over the years they kept in contact via Facebook, but since they attended different high schools, Priola confides, they were never more than just acquaintances.

Then, when 2016 rolled around, Priola took a position as a reporter for the Staten Island Advance. She was brainstorming article ideas for the entertainment section while scrolling through Facebook, when Ahamed popped up on her newsfeed. He was promoting an original book of poetry that he had authored.

“It was called ‘Nobody Wants to Die on Mondays,’ and I asked if he was around for an interview when I got out of work,” she recalled. “We agreed to meet at Starbucks. As we spoke, he admitted to me that he’s had a crush on me since high school. And since I was single, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to go on an actual date with him.”

The Great Kills resident explains from that time on, they’ve built a relationship going to the movies, walking and exploring nature through Staten Island historic sites like Fort Wadsworth, Wolfe’s Pond Park and Clove Lakes Park.

“Our relationship has blossomed through low-key dates like going to Taste of India II (where he first introduced me to Indian food!), catching a movie at the Atrium Cinemas, and then going home to watch some sort of reality TV show (usually “Jersey Shore” or “90 Day Fiancé”). That’s how 98% of our date nights go — LOL!,” she added.
