Single mom creates children’s book series as tribute to working parents (VIDEO)

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Going back to work following childbirth can understandably be a difficult time for parents but single mother Lynsey Rinelli took it extra hard.

Following a three-month maternity leave, Rinelli, an emergency room veterinarian by trade, felt guilty leaving behind Gracelyn during 12-hour shifts away with those feelings only amplified during the peak times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

One night following a long sleep-deprived shift, Rinelli made the framework for what would become “Good Morning Big Apple,” a children’s book inspired by her and her daughter’s mornings greeting the things she saw out of her bedroom window.

“I feel very proud being a veterinarian, but I wanted to leave something that she could always have,” added Rinelli, a graduate of Moore Catholic and Wagner College before heading to Ross University in St. Kitts for her doctorate.

The book follows the pair as they greet landmarks throughout New York City through their imaginations during a time when those adventures really couldn’t happen in real life.

“The book is a tribute to busy parents and their children who might not have the time they wish they had for an adventure but might be able to sit and imagine themselves in these places.”

“Good Morning Big Apple” is available March 8 on LittleGreysBooks.com, BookBaby.com, Barnes & Noble Booksellers and Amazon.com.
