STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With projectors in hand and eclipse glasses resting on noses, hundreds of people across Staten Island looked up to the sky in awe to watch the solar eclipse on Monday — the first to cross New York state in decades.
The total solar eclipse passed over Mexico, the United States and Canada, on Monday. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. During that time, the sky darkens, as if it were dawn or dusk.
