Staten Island boy, 12, allegedly steals car, uses booster seat for multi-borough joyride: Report

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 12-year-old boy allegedly stole an SUV on Staten Island and took it on a joyride across New York City, although he needed a child’s booster seat to see over the dash, the New York Post reported.

The pint-sized troublemaker allegedly stole the Hyundai SUV on Monday night from Staten Island with a 16-year-old female companion, according to the report.

The 12-year-old allegedly crossed both the Verrazzano-Narrows and Brooklyn bridges to get into Manhattan, the outlet reported.

According to the NYPD, police located the stolen vehicle on Tuesday at approximately 11 a.m. and attempted to pull the child over at Canal and Allen streets near Chinatown — but he took off, hitting several vehicles in the escape.

A short time later, authorities were able to capture the boy after he crashed again at Ridge and Stanton streets on the Lower East Side, police say.

“There were four injuries to the other drivers of the vehicles that were struck including one pedestrian that was also struck,” said the NYPD. “The victims were transported local hospitals with minor injuries.”

The NYPD does not release the identities of suspects who are minors.
