Staten Island doctor remembered by patients after his death: ‘A wonderful doctor that really cared’

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Dr. Jeffry Tambor is being honored by his Staten Island patients, as they remember him as a “wonderful” and “excellent” doctor who treated them with care. The physician died last week; public records show he was 65.

Dr. Tambor, an internal medicine physician, was affiliated with Staten Island University Hospital, and had an office located on Mason Avenue in Ocean Breeze, as indicated by Northwell Health.

He received his medical education from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, according to Northwell Health. An online biography said he had four decades of medical experience.

According to Congregation Bnai Yeshurun, an Orthodox Synagogue in Teaneck, N.J., funeral services for Dr. Tambor were held Tuesday, Dec. 26 at Young Israel of Staten Island.

He is survived by his daughter, Yonit Weiss, and sister, Chanie Grunstein.

As the news of Dr. Tambor’s death has reached patients, many have posted on social media to express their sorrow.

“What a shock. He always was so energetic and concerned for his patients,” one Facebook user said.

Some noted Dr. Tambor’s professionalism and experience, others touched on his personality and bedside manner.

“So sorry to learn of Dr. Tambor’s passing. He was an excellent doctor to me for almost 30 years. My condolences to his family,” another Facebook user wrote.

“He’s helped me through several scary uncertain diagnoses and was always able to work with me to figure out my health issues,” a comment on reddit stated. “His bedside manner was so calm, especially with my anxiety. Any time I was referred to a specialist, they were always wonderful too.

“He always kept it professional but I saw him so much in the past few years and saw more of his sense of humor and personality during my visits. He was a wonderful doctor that really cared about helping his patients.”
