Staten Island FerryHawks fall to 2-9 with loss to Ducks

The Staten Island FerryHawks opened their Mother’s Day weekend series vs. the Long Island Ducks Friday night with a 3-2 loss at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.

Just 1,047 fans watched the team lose for the ninth time in 11 games.

The Ducks (8-5) scored twice in the fifth inning off FerryHawk starter Austin DeCarr, but Staten Island answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on Mitch Piatnik’s sacrifice fly, which plated Zac Racusin who opened the inning with a double and moved to third on a ground out.

The Ducks added an insurance run in the seventh as former New York Mets standout Daniel Murphy doubled in a run.

The FerryHawks pulled within 3-2 in the home eighth as Adrian Sanchez plated a run with a sacrifice fly.

But that would be all the scoring for Island pro team.

The teams play again Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday morning at 11, when all mothers get in for free.
