Enrico “Harry” Cucco Jr., 87, a lifelong Rosebank resident and retired NYPD lieutenant who served as head usher at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, died Jan. 17 at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze. Harry graduated from New Dorp High School and lettered in football before attending Wagner College. He served in the United States Naval Reserves for 30 years as a hull maintenance technician, retiring as a petty officer. He also worked operating backhoes and other heavy machinery for Oliveri Excavating. “But Harry was most proud of attaining the rank of Lieutenant in the New York Police Department serving in the 122nd, 66th, 70th, and 9th Precinct, as well as the Staten Island Highway ESU,” reads his obituary. He retired from the NYPD after 32 years. Harry also was a co-owner of Zip’z Make Your Own Sundae Ice Cream Shop in New Dorp, and he was a longtime and active parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Rosebank, where he served as head usher for many years. Anna Padula, a retired reading teacher and committed volunteer, died Jan. 18 on Staten Island. The longtime Dongan Hills resident was a teacher, beginning at PS 11, the school she attended as a young child, and later, PS 52, where she also worked as a librarian. Anna volunteered for many years, originally, at the Staten Island Hospital Castleton Avenue site and then at the Ocean Breeze location. She continued volunteer work at the Gastroenterology office of Drs. Sottile, Megna, Mancino, and Langan. She was an avid reader and a member of The New York Times Crossword Society. She loved music and attending concerts, opera, and ballet performances. When she was young, Anna traveled by car and, in time, enjoyed visiting every state on the east coast from Florida to Maine and on into eastern Canada. She…
