Staten Island obituaries for Nov. 26, 2023: He survived war-torn Italy, ventured to North America as teen

Silvano Guadagnoli, 85, a long-time Staten Islander who lived in retirement in New Jersey, died Nov. 24, 2023. He had heroically battled with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) for two years.

Born on July 15, 1938 in Cansano, Abruzzo, Italy, Guadagnoli grew up in that war-torn country during the World War II. He vividly recounted the fear and deprivation of his community resulting from German military occupation of the area during 1943 and 1944. As an older teenager, Guadagnoli set out for North America to first re-unite with his brothers already in Canada. After several years, he moved on to the United States to settle in New York.

On April 30, 1960, Guadagnoli married the love of his life, Nellina Guadagnoli, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Brooklyn, New York. In 1974, the couple — along with their five children – moved to Staten Island, New York where they purchased a home in Great Kills. READ THE FULL OBITUARY >>

Joan Ann Clark, 92, who lived in Annadale on Staten Island for all but three years of her life, died Nov. 16, 2023.

She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Clark also spent a considerable amount of time in the town of Eminence, NY, where the family had a second home. READ THE FULL OBITUARY >>

Patricia Anne Gullickson, 89, who raised her family of five children on Staten Island, died Nov. 25, 2023.

She worked as a representative for the New York Telephone Company, leaving this position to embark on her most important role as a dedicated mother in 1958. She spent the last 25 years of her career working for New York State with the Unemployment Office and the Department of Motor Vehicle until she retired in 1995. READ THE FULL OBITUARY >>
