Sunnyside stabbings: 81-year-old man killed, two others injured. Here’s what we know.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Three days after a dispute between neighbors exploded into violence, leaving an 81-year-old man dead and two others hospitalized, police and the public have been left with more questions than answers.

Law enforcement continues to investigate what sparked the deadly confrontation between the men.

Here’s the latest rundown on the situation and what’s known about Friday’s stabbings.

Here’s what we know about the incident:

Officers responded to a 911 call of an assault at 43 Sunnyside Terr. at around 4:40 p.m., and found three men with injuries and stab wounds, police said.

One man, 81, was transported in critical condition with stab wounds about his neck and body to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 78-year-old man also suffered multiple stab wounds, and was transported to the hospital in critical condition, police said, adding that he is now in stable condition.

And a 51-year-old man sustained lacerations to the hands and was transported to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

A 57-year-old man was taken into custody, police said, and a knife was recovered at the scene.

No charges have been formally filed and an investigation remains ongoing, according to a police source.

“Detectives still working on all aspects of the case: Active investigation,” a source with knowledge of the investigation told the Staten Island Advance/silive.com.
