The Gym Bag: DiMartino has Senior Night to remember; Nicole Melious update and Island diver earns weekly honors

Senior point guard Lauren DiMartino had a Senior Night to remember for Misericordia University in its 74-71 Division 3 upset victory vs. Delaware Valley University last week in a MAC Freedom Conference game at The Anderson Center in Dallas, Pa.

The St. Joseph Hill product, who has battled through various injuries during her four-year career, was making only her second appearance of the season Saturday, when she ignited a huge fourth-quarter rally.

Misercordia trailed Del Val 54-44 entering the final period but outscored the Aggies 30-17 to win and avenge a 26-point loss earlier in the season.

In the fourth quarter, DiMartino, who had played 16 minutes in all, had four assists to go along with three rebounds and scored eight points on 4-of-4 shooting, including the go-ahead layup with 2:41 left in the game, to put the Cougars up for good, 66-65.

Misericordia had battled back from a 21-9, first-quarter deficit to pull back within 38-29 at the half.

The winners improved to 2-6 in the conference and 8-11 overall.
