STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Hamburglar is out to promote McDonald’s upgraded hamburgers nationwide, according to AL.com.
McDonald’s announced back in April that it would change part of its menu, to be released in 2024. And to promote the new burger, the classic character is promoting the change.
The upgrade to the burger is the first major change since 2018, when the food chain first transitioned its Quarter Pounder with cheese to fresh cooked-to-order beef and removed artificial flavors, colors and preservatives from its burger lineup, Nation’s Restaurant News reported.
The upgrade includes the classic hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, McDouble burger, and big Macs. The sandwiches will now be softer, toasted buns, melted cheese, fresher tomatoes and lettuce and caramelized onions.
The food chain will also made a change inside individual locations by putting six patties instead of eight on its grill at one time. With fewer patties, the auto-cooking mechanism will apply less pressure, restaurant executives said, leading to a bigger, juicier burger, the report states.
“We found that small changes, like tweaking our process to get hotter, meltier cheese and adjusting our grill settings for a better sear, added up to a big difference in making our burgers more flavorful than ever,” Chef Chad Schafer, senior director of culinary innovation, McDonald’s USA.
The report states that the updated burgers were first introduced in Australia, Canada and Belgium before coming to a handful of larger U.S. cities.
