Under Tommy DeVito, the Giants weren’t able to generate much offense against the Eagles on Monday.
Having completed nine of 16 passes for 55 yards and no touchdowns, coach Brian Daboll was left with no choice but to make a change. Trailing 20-3, Tyrod Taylor would be taking snaps in the second half against Philadelphia.
Tom DeVito Sr. was confused by this decision. His son had led the team to three wins in their last four games, why was he being asked to sit now?
“I was a little perplexed by it. I didn’t see him do anything wrong,” Tom Sr. said, via Ryan Dunleavy and Steve Serby of The New York Post. “The obvious thing was you don’t see any interceptions, so you’re like, ‘I guess I’ll find out after film.’ Even the coaches really don’t know during the course of a game because there’s so much going on until they watch film to see, ‘Hey, he missed this, or he missed that, or that was his fault or wasn’t his fault.’”
Taylor finished the game by completing seven of 16 passes for 133 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He orchestrated a two-minute drive that put the Giants 26 yards away from making a comeback that would have spoiled the Eagles’ chances of winning the NFC East. However, Taylor was intercepted by Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo with four seconds remaining in the game.
The Giants lost again to the Eagles 33-25, dropping their record to 5-10.
In his last two games, DeVito has completed 29 of 50 passes (58 completion percentage) for 232 yards and a 69.7 quarterback rating. That’s down from his previous four games, where he completed 66 of 99 passes (66.7 completion percentage) for 681 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception, a 105.7 quarterback rating.
