Undefeated no more: Shorthanded Jets stun Eagles with remarkable comeback in final minutes

Tony Adams caught the ball and started running toward the end zone as MetLife Stadium erupted in noise around him.

The Jets didnโ€™t have their top two cornerbacks against the defending NFC champions. They hadnโ€™t scored a touchdown with less than two minutes remaining in the game. They havenโ€™t had their starting quarterback on the field since the fourth play of the season.

But they had Tony Adams, picking off Jalen Hurts for his first career interception to set up the Jetsโ€™ first touchdown of the game. It ended up being the only one the Jets needed to pull off a remarkable, 20-14 upset of the Eagles on Sunday night.

Everything has seemed to go against the Jets this season. And yet against all odds, they arrive at the bye at 3-3 and in the heat of the AFC playoff race, with the schedule easing up โ€” they return from the bye in two weeks to play the lowly Giants after handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.

The Jets probably shouldnโ€™t have won this game. They almost certainly wouldnโ€™t have if the Eagles elected to throw on the first play after the two-minute warning. But Philadelphia, trying to seal the game, elected to throw the ball instead of running it and, worst case, pinning Zach Wilson and the Jetsโ€™ offense deep in Philly territory.

Well, it failed spectacularly as Adams picked off the pass and returned it all the way down to the Eagles 8. And then Breece Hall ran it in for a touchdown on the next play to give the Jets the lead. Hall probably shouldnโ€™t have scored there, it gave the Eagles one last chance instead of running down the clock โ€” which the Jets could have done. But it didnโ€™t matter. The Jets ended up stopping the Eagles to seal the game.
