Vacant under-renovation Burger King an odd, logo-less site in this Staten Island neighborhood

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Burger King logo is known all over the world.

Which is why it’s so strange to see a Burger King outlet stripped of all its familiar iconography.

But that’s exactly what I found one day not too long ago when driving past the Burger King on (appropriately enough) Burgher Avenue in Dongan Hills, at the corner of Hylan Boulevard.

The parking lot was totally empty, which I thought was unusual for a weekday afternoon.

Then I noticed that the big sign in the parking lot was missing its logo and wording. The logo on the restaurant’s outside wall was also missing, with just a white circle remaining.

I pulled into the parking lot to take a look. It turns out that the Burger King was temporarily closed for renovations.

Looking through the window, I saw that there were no workers behind the counter, no lines of customers waiting to place or pick up their orders. There were no diners sitting at the tables enjoying their meals. The drive-through area was silent and deserted.

It was strange to see this familiar space barren of people and without its identifying features.

There’s just something about seeing a restaurant, store or other place that we’ve known for years empty that gives you an eerie, almost timeless feeling.

Have a look at some of the pictures that I took that day.

I’ve never eaten at this Burger King, but the dining area looks cool. Very modern. (Tom Wrobleski/Staten Island Advance)

But there are no customers waiting at the counter. And the board showing the food selections has been taken down….
