STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Looking to win big playing the lottery? Then you’ll have to be sure to pick lucky numbers — but its just as critical to know which numbers to avoid.
Luckily, lottery experts have done some homework for us, compiling a list of those numbers that are least-often drawn.
Experts at Lottery Geeks, a news publication for anything related to lottery, recently analyzed the numbers that have appeared in all previous draws across Powerball, Mega Millions, Cash4Life, Lotto America and Lucky for Life.
The outlet determined each number’s average frequency across all five lotteries. Numbers for of the five most popular U.S. lotteries were analyzed to determine each one’s ranking.
The researchers found that 10 is the luckiest number of all, being picked 211 times on average, and 47 is the unluckiest, with an average frequency of 177.6.
LOTTERY STRATEGIES
Many people have their own tactics that they believe will increase their chances of securing a jackpot. It’s very common for players to use a meaningful date, and play that number routinely. While this tactic limits your number choices to those between one and 31, researchers found that eight of the luckiest numbers are within this range, so playing your anniversary date might actually be a winning strategy after all.
And many play a particular sequence of numbers every time they play, hoping that it will one day land them a jackpot.
However, you could use the same sequence of numbers in every draw for the rest of your life and never win a cent, the researchers said. Instead, they suggest you take a look at their list that might win you millions.
