STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On Sundays, churches across the nation open their doors to parishioners seeking to grow deeper in their faith; Salem Church partakes in these weekly rhythms. However, on one Sunday each year, the parish cancels its services and directs its concentrated efforts toward serving the community.
The day has come to be known as “For the City Sunday,” a day in which the church splits into teams and spreads out across the Island to give back to the people. This year, the day of giving was held on Aug. 27.
