West Brighton resident Katie Arcuri named Director of Athletics at Division 1 St. Peter’s University

West Brighton resident Katie Arcuri began her career in St. Peter’s University’s athletics department 10 years ago this month and she’d be hard-pressed to celebrate her SPU anniversary in a better way than she did on Thursday: At a press conference announcing she’d been named the Jersey City school’s new Director of Athletics.

Arcuri, a former St. Peter’s Girls basketball player, becomes the Division 1 Peacocks’ 11th athletic director in school history. The announcement was made by SPU president Eugene J. Cornacchia and the transition into her new role is effective immediately.

“As we elevate Katie Arcuri to the role of Director of Athletics, we celebrate not only her impressive track record but also her unwavering commitment to Saint Peter’s University for the past decade,” said Cornacchia via stpeterspeacocks.com. “Katie has been a driving force in upholding the highest standards of compliance, student-athlete welfare and fostering a culture of academic and athletic excellence. Her leadership has not only raised graduation rates, but has also propelled us into new initiatives that enhance the overall student-athlete experience. With Katie at the helm, we are confident in the continued success and growth of our athletic programs.”

Arcuri, who was front and center during St. Peter’s men’s basketball team’s magical run to the NCAA Elite Eight almost two years ago, was previously SPU’s Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Athlete Welfare.

According to the 42-year-old Arcuri, her appointment to AD is still sinking in.

“To be honest, it still doesn’t feel real,’’ she laughed during an interview with the Advance/SILive.com. “I found out unofficially last week and maybe when I change offices and start taking care of the things that have to be taken care of, (it will feel real).
