Women’s college hoops: Nicole Melious cops Atlantic-10 All-Rookie honors

Susan Wagner product Nicole Melious took her basketball talents to Philadelphia, where she’s continued to make a name for herself at La Salle University this season. After completing an unprecedented HS career on Staten Island last year, the freshman shooting guard was named to the Atlantic-10′s All-Rookie team on Monday, per an announcement from the conference.

The long-distance shooter is averaging 10.7 points and 2.7 rebounds on 34% accuracy from downtown. She poured in a season-high 28 markers in a 93-83 win over Fordham last week, tying a school-record with eight treys on just 10 attempts.

For her efforts, she was also tabbed the conference Rookie of the Week.

Melious, a three-time Warren Jaques Award winner as Staten Island’s top player and NYC’s all-time leading scorer with 3,140 points, will look to keep the momentum flowing when the Explorers take on UMass in the opening round of the A-10 tourney on Wednesday at noon.
