A new trade target has emerged for the Yankees. With St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O’Neill expected to be reinstated ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Miami Marlins, switch hitter Dylan Carlson appears to be the odd man out.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com:
Per source, another outfielder has surfaced as a potential Yankees trade target: Dylan Carlson. The Cardinals announced earlier today that Tyler O’Neill would take over the LF job upon his return from the IL, so a trade of the switch-hitting Carlson wouldn’t be surprising.

In the last week, the Yankees have been linked to a couple of outfielders. First, we heard that the Cubs’ Cody Bellinger could be a potential rental. Then we heard about the Rockies’ Randal Grichuk. Now Carlson appears to be in the running for New York.
In Grichuk, the Yankees see a batter who can dominate at home. He puts up good numbers at Yankee Stadium – he has a .279/.333/.532 slash line with seven homers over 120 plate appearances in the Bronx.
Bellinger is a former MVP with Yankee connections – his father, Clay Bellinger played in New York from 1999-2001. Cody Bellinger, who is a left-handed hitter, also has power, which is an attractive option with the short porch in right field. He also plays a solid center field.
In Carlson, the Yankees get a switch hitter with a knack for drawing walks. He’s also a decent outfielder with experience in left, right and center. For his career, he’s a .246 hitter with a .728 OPS.

While Carlson would be an upgrade, he won’t excite Yankees fans, who are in for a long two weeks until the MLB trade deadline.
