Former major league pitcher George Frazier — who was charged with three losses in the 1981 World Series — passed away, the Colorado Rockies announced on Monday night. He was 68 years old.
Frazier — who died Monday in Tulsa, Okla., after a recent battle with an undisclosed illness — spent 10 years in the majors while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins.
He made two World Series appearances during his career, first with the Yankees in 1981, when they lost in six games to the Dodgers, and then a second in 1987, when he won with the Twins. With the Yankees, Frazier appeared in 140 games over three seasons and had a 3.25 ERA.
In his final year in the big leagues, he made one relief appearance for the Twins during the seven-game series against St. Louis. In Game 4, he allowed just one hit over two innings and struck out one batter.
