Police are searching for a knife-wielding assailant who slashed a 27-year-old man across the face in the Bronx Saturday morning as the victim was walking alongside his girlfriend, authorities said.
The brazen daylight assault occurred outside of the 251 Deli and Grocery on West Kingsbridge Road and Heath Avenue at 9:29 a.m., according to police. Cops say the masked attacker was in 251 Deli with the victims before he followed the man and his girlfriend when they exited.
Several minutes later, the suspect approached the pair from behind and walked between them before slashing the man across the left side of his face with what cops describe as a black military knife. Police said the attacker did not say anything to his victim, and the incident appeared unprovoked.
EMS rushed the wounded man to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and ultimately released.
The slasher is described as being approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a Levi’s logo, black sweatpants, black Crocs, and a black fanny pack.
Law enforcement has released surveillance images of the suspect.
