One of the best reasons to live in New York City is that you’ll never run out of things to do for free โ€” from world-class concerts and theater events to action flicks and photo exhibitions. (And you do know about the fireworks, right?) Here are some of the best options coming up in July.

For โ€œHamlet,โ€ Central Park is the place to be

For its 61st free Shakespeare in the Park presentation, the Public Theater is mounting โ€œHamletโ€ in a new modern-dress production directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon. The moody prince of the title is portrayed by Ato Blankson-Wood, nominated for a Tony for his work in โ€œSlave Playโ€ on Broadway, and previously featured in Public Theater musical adaptations of โ€œTwelfth Nightโ€ and โ€œAs You Like It.โ€ Through Aug. 6, Delacorte Theater; details here.

Head uptown for music, exercise, yoga and more at Harlem Meer

The Harlem Meer Summer Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary with an extended schedule of concerts, classes and fitness activities that runs throughout July and into August. Go Wilde with Oscar in Riverside Park

Hudson Classical Theater Company continues its summer season with a production of โ€œThe School for Scandal,โ€ an 18th-century English comedy of errors by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, staged each Thursday through Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Riverside Park. The show runs through July 23, and there’s one more production to come beyond this one, โ€œMargaret: Shakespeare’s Warrior Queen,โ€ based on portions of “Henry VI,” Parts I, II and III.
