3-year-old Brooklyn boy was killed in drowning, city medical examiner says

A 3-year-old Brooklyn boy — whose death led to murder charges against a man connected to his babysitter — was drowned and struck in the head, according to the city’s chief medical examiner.

Denim Brown died primarily by drowning, with blunt force injuries to his head as a contributing cause, the medical examiner’s office said on Wednesday. Brown’s death has been deemed a homicide.

Kevin James, a 29-year-old man who lived in the same Flatbush building and whose family frequently babysat Brown, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of murder, assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child. James’ attorney did not immediately return a request for comment.

Brown was found unconscious and unresponsive around 10 p.m. on Sunday in the Flatbush building, police said. He was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.
