An extensive investigation led by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, in collaboration with NYC Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell, has resulted in the indictment of 32 alleged members of the 8 Trey Crips and the 9 Ways gang.
The charges encompass 140 counts, including second-degree murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, criminal possession of a weapon, and assault, among others.
The gangs, based in Brooklynโs Flatbush and East Flatbush areas, are accused of engaging in violent activities to establish dominance in their territories and eliminate rival gang members.
Notable defendants include Michael Williams, also known as rapper Sheff G, and Tegan Chambers, known as Sleepy Hallow. Williams is accused of funding and encouraging violence using earnings from his successful music career.
During the conspiracy period from March 2019 to the present, the gangs allegedly committed 12 shootings that left 13 victims, including one fatality and three innocent bystanders. Surveillance videos and social media posts purportedly capture several acts of violence and criminal activities involving the defendants.
The most severe incident involved a mass shooting in Oct. 2020, allegedly executed by defendant Kamondre Dekattu and others, resulting in the death of a rival gang member and injuries to five others.
