A 41-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly pushing a woman onto the subway tracks at Chambers Street on Tuesday night, the NYPD said.
Police on Thursday said that Samuel Junker of White Plains was charged with felony assault in connection to the incident, which left the 34-year-old woman with a minor leg injury. The woman was able to get back onto the platform after being pushed, with help from other straphangers, the NYPD said after the incident.
Officials said the attack occurred around 11 p.m. on Tuesday as the woman was navigating around a subway station staircase on the southbound platform for the 1, 2 and 3 trains. Cops said the man approached her, shoved her onto the tracks and fled the station.
Authorities described it as an unprovoked attack.
The woman was taken to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital and treated for a minor leg injury, police said.
Attorney information for Junker was not immediately available.
