A 5-year-old boy was killed in a Bronx house fire Wednesday night that injured several others, including an 83-year-old woman, according to officials.

Flames erupted from the basement of the Barnes Ave. home near East 227th Street in Wakefield shortly before 5:30 p.m., fire officials said. Emergency responders transported the 5-year-old to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Two women, 83 and 26 years old, were also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but were in stable condition, police said.

Firefighters got the flames under control around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. The cause is still under investigation.

The incident was the second fatal fire to kill a young child in the city. An inferno at a Staten Island home killed a 7-year-old girl on New Yearโ€™s Day.
