Appellate Division Justice Robert Miller honored at 2024 Red Mass in Nassau County

The Catholic Lawyers Guild of Nassau County honored Justice Robert J. Miller of the Appellate Division, Second Department, at its annual Red Mass on Oct. 8, 2024, at St. Josephโ€™s Church in Garden City. The event, presided over by Bishop John Barres of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, included a Mass followed by a dinner reception and awards ceremony at Chaminade High Schoolโ€™s Activity-Athletic Center.

Justice Miller, recognized for his extensive career in public service and dedication to upholding the law, received the St. Thomas More Award, a prestigious honor given by the Guild. The award acknowledges individuals who embody the virtues of the Catholic faith in their professional and personal lives.

Justice Miller expressed his gratitude to the Guild and reflected on the significance of the award and the importance of faith in his legal career when addressing the guild members.

โ€œI am honored and humbled to receive the St. Thomas More Award from the Nassau County Catholic Lawyers Guild,โ€ Justice Miller said. โ€œAs members of the Catholic Lawyers Guild, we are inspired by Moreโ€™s example and recognize that in living up to his example, there is much we can do short of the ultimate act.โ€

Justice Miller spoke about the challenges facing the country and the division seen across political and social lines. He urged the legal community to take inspiration from their faith to heal and unite.
