Bronx man stabbed while helping friend in wheelchair: police

A good Samaritan was knifed in the neck as he assisted a wheelchair-bound man into a Bronx building, police and witnesses said Saturday.

The 24-year-old victim was helping his neighbor enter the W. 162nd St. building near Ogden Ave. โ€” about three blocks from Yankee Stadium โ€” about 6:50 p.m. Friday when two men wearing baseball caps approached.

โ€œHe got into an altercation with the two individuals,โ€ the wheelchair-bound resident, who didnโ€™t want to be named, told The Daily News. โ€œThen all hell broke loose. They started beating him. They stabbed him in the neck.

โ€œI still have his blood on me,โ€ he said.

One of the attackers had a knife, the witness said. The other was armed with a revolver, but didnโ€™t fire.

The victim managed to move the handicapped witness out of the way before he was wounded.

โ€œHe put me to the side,โ€ he said. โ€œThey cut him deep. Heโ€™s a good kid. He was trying to help me out.โ€

EMS rushed the victim to Lincoln Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

His two attackers ran off. One of the assailants was wearing a Chicago Bulls cap. The other was wearing a Carolina Panthers hat, the witness recalled.

No arrests have been made. A motive for the attack was not immediately disclosed.

โ€œHis mom is in Florida, coming back tomorrow,โ€ he said about the victim. โ€œShe doesnโ€™t even know yet.โ€
