The Brooklyn Bar Association Foundation, the charitable arm of the BBA, marked its return to grandeur with its Annual Dinner on Monday, December 4, at El Caribe in Mill Basin. Dubbed as Brooklynโs version of the Oscars, the event brought together over 500 attendees, including legal luminaries, judges, politicians and other dignitaries, to celebrate and honor leading figures in the legal community.
This yearโs dinner, the most significant since the onset of COVID-19, saw an impressive turnout, with the attendance surpassing 500 for the dinner and even more during the cocktail hour. The event served as a testament to the resilience and spirit of the Brooklyn legal community.
The spotlight of the evening was on the honorees, Hon. Sylvia Hinds-Radix and Howard Fensterman. Justice Hinds-Radix, in her acceptance speech, expressed her profound appreciation for the recognition from a professional association that holds a special place in her heart. She extended her gratitude to her colleagues at the Law Department and emphasized the critical role of mentorship in the legal profession.
Howard Fensterman, in his address, recounted his journey of establishing a partnership with Frank Carone and expanding his practice into Brooklyn. Despite spending over three decades working on Long Island, Fensterman shared that he had always harbored ambitions of leading Brooklynโs largest law firm. He acknowledged the support and contributions of several key figures in the Brooklyn legal community, including Carone, RoseAnn Branda, Ethan Gerber, Anthony Genovesi, Larry DiGiovanna, and Mark Caruso, many of whom are past presidents of the BBA.
