Child survives after falling 3 stories from East Harlem building, police say

A 7-year-old boy fell three floors from an upper balcony at a building in East Harlem on Friday and survived, police said.

The child was playing on a 12th-floor balcony at 200 East 131st St. around 11 a.m. when he fell off and plunged to a ninth-floor balcony, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

It was not clear how the child got over the side of the higher balcony or if he was by himself.

The boy suffered only minor injuries and was taken by emergency medical workers to Harlem Hospital for evaluation, the spokesperson said.

No criminality was suspected, but an investigation into the incident remains ongoing, according to the NYPD.
